Artillery fire heard north of Umm Qasr

Control of Umm Qasr is critical to the humanitarian effort to get desperately needed food and water to southern Iraq.
On Friday, the first shipload of emergency aid arrived at the port when the Sir Galahad, a British vessel, docked with 232 tonnes of water, food, blankets and other supplies.
The ship's arrival had been held up for days because of Iraqi mines in the waterways leading to Umm Qasr.
Aid agencies say the humanitarian situation in southern Iraq is getting ever more serious.
Arrivals of food and water have been greeted with fist fights and scuffles, as Iraqis jostle to get their hands on supplies.
