Has the whole world gone blind?
This is how I see it:
The pro-war people knew the US would win the war and felt that by freeing the Iraqi people from Saddam, this would justify the war, war as the only correct method of solving the problem.
The anti-war people knew the US would win the war but felt at the cost of thousands of innocent people and the destruction of an entire country, war as a method, was not justified when there were other avenues available and no innocent lives need be lost.
So yes the righties and lefties were correct in saying the US would win, no surprise there to either side. SO WE WERE BOTH RIGHT. But so far the war has not been justified. The Iraqis are more fucked now than they were under Saddam. I dont know what images you are seeing on TV in the US but there is nothing left for them now. No jobs, safe water, electricity, the hospitals have been looted their homes have been demolished and their extended families cant offer refuge. And to top it off they have to face machine guns and tanks all day long, hoping they dont get caught in the cross-fire between a twitchy soldier screaming in English and a car full of people that dont understand and are too scared to stop. It doesnt get worse than that.
The lefties could see these fundamental problems with the plan before the war started which is why there was so much protesting. Not because they were scared the US would lose! The lefties are waiting to see how the people of Iraq will be better off after their country has been destroyed. So far war as a method has not been justified, its not looking good. Its not 'reality tv', an action movie or a fun debate. These are real lives that this war has destroyed and there will be more wars soon after this. A frightening thought, but at least they wont be bombing your houses. Phew. Although a realist and unoptomistic about the plight of the Iraqis especially now that their country has been 'bombed to the stone age', Im waiting with hope and praying that things work out for them and that they dont have to suffer like this for much longer.
