Pavarotti, Bono to Give Concert for Uprooted Iraqis
Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti and Irish rocker Bono will team up on stage next month to raise funds to help Iraqis uprooted by the war, the United Nations refugee agency announced on Tuesday.
The concert is set for May 27 in Modena, northern Italy, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement.
Pavarotti and Bono performed together in 1995 to raise funds for child victims of the war in Bosnia.
Two thoughts.
First, this is what all the "stars" should be doing. Stop protesting with duct tape over your mouth, stop lending your name and face to a cause that effects nothing and helps no one. Take your talents and gifts AND RAISE MONEY. Oh I know we will then have to listen to them all pat themselves on the back for all the good they're doing. But that would be better than listening to them now.
Second, and this is the important one; who in their right mind wants to hear Pavarotti? I KNOW he's the best at what he does. I know that. And I'm sure I'm an uncultured woman for not liking it...so call me uncultured, IT'S OPERA!
That, coupled with the fact that I'm the one human being on the planet who doesn't like U2, makes this sound like a horrid combination to me. But I love Bono's activism, I love his passion. Just can't stand his music.
