There is a story being regurgitated by the righties about Bush NOT being AWOL back in the 70's. Having not been able to find this original story yet, I'll just warn you, the information we've all been hearing for years might be incorrect. But apparently, some on the right believe that we on the left JUST PULLED THAT INFO OUT OF THE AIR, like we personally made up years worth of AWOL stories.
Some on the right believe this new found "truth" entitles them to a personal apology by those of us who believed this information. Forget that this has been the ONLY information available for years. Let me say that again, this is the ONLY information that has been available on Bush's military records for years. And yet, for some strange reason, the righties, with their knack for unbelievable arrogance, think we now owe THEM an apology. Now we are being expected to print a full page retraction or something. All I can say is, TRY HOLDING YOUR BREATH.

Now I consider Vinny a friend, but this is my response on Syl's site to a demand for a personal apology:
I'll not be bullied into printing anything. I believed the AWOL story, and I still can't find the original story that now debunks it. If I'm proven to be wrong, oh well, won't be the first time. I'm a big girl, I can take it.
Ok, so let's say he wasn't AWOL. And??? And what? All that proves is that stories about his record were incorrect. But let's face it, this story has been around FOR YEARS. I'm a little suspicious as to why this new found "truth" is just now emerging. I'm also a little leery because I can find this original story NOWHERE. All I can find are sites where everyone is just spewing out the same pasted crap that they're finding on each other's sites. I've scoured the NY Times and still can't find it, although I'm sure I've just missed it. All this story proves is that he made up his weekend time, it changes NOTHING about the man.
Ok, so he might not have been AWOL, woop-de-f*ckin'-do. He's still a big fat liar and he STILL finagled his way out of Vietnam which makes him a liar AND a coward, he STILL didn't deserve to wear the uniform of a soldier, and we all STILL know the reason he did what he did on the USS Lincoln.

And for the record, I'll print on my blog what I want to print. And you should too Syl. Don't let someone bully you into printing something that your heart isn't in. I really don't understand the attitude. Not only am I NOT "pretending not to notice this story" (which is what Vinny accuses us of), I've searched for it relentlessly and can't find it. I'll not print something as fact just because a bunch of rightwingers regurgitate the same pasted crap. I noticed NOT ONE OF THEM has the original story linked. I'm not saying there ISN'T an original story, just that none of them, for some strange reason, decided to linked to it.
I'd love to print this story providing someone can find the original. I have MUCH to say about it, and NONE it includes an apology TO ANY F*CKIN' BODY.
