Back in 2003, shortly before the war started, I got Dixie-chicked before it had a name. By friends, by people I loved, by people who live in my house. I was called a traitor. I was accused of being unpatriotic. I was told if I couldn’t support my country and it’s president, I should leave.
I actually considered it. I didn't want to live in a country that wasn't free.
Now, some four years later, it still stings. Although I’m thrilled that the lies of this administration are there for the world to see, and that now it is completely safe to speak out, I’ll never forget how dangerous and painful it can be to swim against the current and how much free speech can cost. Someday I write more about my own experience. For now, I’ll just admire them...
